Admission Policy for Preschool – 8 Grade

Holy Cross School under the direction of the Diocese of Rockford, admits students of any race, gender, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally available to the students at Holy Cross. Students preparing to attend Holy Cross School must meet all requirements of Holy Cross Parish/School Policy, the Diocese, and the State. The pastor and principal make the final determination in regards to admission and therefore, that decision is final.

Admission Priority

  1. Holy Cross Parishioners that meet the school criteria: Attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation, contribute to Parish stewardship, and participate in a Parish ministry.
  2. Non-parishioners transferring from other schools that meet the school criteria at their Parish

Admission Procedures and Priorities

All children entering Holy Cross’s Three year old Preschool Program must be three years of age by September 1st. All children entering the Four year old Preschool Program must likewise be four years of age by September 1st. The children entering either preschool program must be toilet trained before entering the program.

All incoming Kindergartners must be five years old by September 1st. All First Grade students must be six years of age by September 1st. At all times, Holy Cross School reserves the right to refuse students whose individual needs cannot be met by our educational program.

Transfer Students

Students entering Holy Cross School from another school must present an official transcript/certification of the grade level for which he/she is applying and a certificate of good standing. Parents will be asked to sign a release of records form that allows the previous school to send cumulative files and health records. Birth and Baptismal certificates are also required.

Health Requirements

Illinois Health requirements for students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, grade six and students transferring from out of state are:
  • A recent Illinois physical examination
  • A recent vision exam (K and any child entering school for the first time)
  • A recent Illinois dental examination (K, 2, 6)
  • Immunizations and current booster immunizations against measles, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria, poliomyelitis and pertussis. Other regulations may apply.
