Morning Celebration of Veteran’s Day!

We are excited to invite you to our 8:00AM Mass and Veteran’s Day Celebration next Tuesday, November 11th. Our schedule of activities follows:

Students should arrive at school between 7:45 and 7:50AM.  (Thank you, parents, for directing your children to their classrooms while you and any guests make your way over to the Church.)

  • The students will proceed to the Church with their teachers after leaving their coats and backpacks in their classrooms.

  • After 8:00AM Mass, we will have a Flag procession, post colors and say the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

  • Following the Pledge, the adults and students will meet in the Crusader gym to sing “America the Beautiful.”

  • Our Sixth and Second grade students will present a short skit about Veterans.

  • We will all sing “God Bless America” after the skit.

  • We will enjoy a DVD about Veterans from 9:00AM to 9:20AM.

  • Our students will return to their classes to make cards for Veterans in the VA Hospital.

  • We invite our guests to stay and enjoy light refreshments in the gym!

So please, spread the word!

Help us welcome our Veterans to Holy Cross Catholic School

as we pay tribute to their honorable service to our families and country.

Thank you, Veterans!

Rosary Group Meeting Times

Our HCCS Rosary Prayer Group is expanding to Mondays and Wednesdays!

Please take advantage of an additional opportunity to gather with Holy Cross families to pray the Rosary!. On Monday and Wednesday mornings immediately after 8AM Mass, you are invited to come to comfy St. Jude’s Room (SE corner of Donovan Hall) to pray the Rosary for our parish, school and all your family’s intentions. No experience is required, children are welcome and the Gift of greater peace and love is promised.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are hoping to secure project funding here at Holy Cross through grant writing.  If you are interested in helping with this important project, please contact Elizabeth Carlson at becarlson94@comcast.net

Protecting Gods Children

Our parish Protecting God’s Children specialist, Pat Roatch, is once again offering to provide a special class for those Holy Cross School parents who have not yet taken this volunteer prerequisite. Please call her at the parish office, 630-879-4750 x 110 if you have not yet taken this program.

Feeding Our Family Service Project

The second Holy Cross School Community Service project for the 2008/2009 school year, Feeding Our Family, will benefit the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry (BIFP). The mission of BIFP is to help needy, local residents by offering supplements of food and household items to them on a monthly basis.  The pantry is currently seeing a large increase in clientele seeking aid. The pantry assisted a record number of almost 300 families this past September in comparison to the approximately 200 helped during September of 2007.  The pantry does purchase staples from local grocers and the Northern Illinois Food Bank but relies greatly on community donations. Local parishes and congregations like Holy Cross supply volunteers to work at the pantry and collect donations in the community.  The clients are so very grateful and thankful for all the assistance they receive!

From November 3rd through November 19th students will be collecting food for the BIFP. Each class has its own storage receptacle and has been designated a specific category of food to gather.

  • Kindergarten: Proteins - canned or dry beans, tuna, salmon, turkey or chicken
  • 1st Grade: Starches - dry pasta, noodles, crackers, rice, Spaghetti-O's, boxed pasta or rice dishes (donations of dry spaghetti and macaroni and cheese have been so high that they are not actually needed)
  • 2nd Grade: Vegetables - canned peas, corn, beans, carrots, tomatoes, etc.
  • 3rd Grade: Fruits - canned peaches, pears, applesauce, mandarin oranges, pineapple, etc.
  • 4th Grade: Soups - canned soups of any variety, dry soup mixes
  • 5th Grade: Beverages - bottled water, juice, coffee, tea, etc. (BIFP also accepts soda but nutritious beverages are preferred)
  • 6th Grade: Snack items - nuts, pretzels, cookies, chips, crackers, etc.
  • 7th/8th Grades: Breakfast items - oatmeal, cereal, pancake or biscuit mix, breakfast bars, granola, etc.

Students are welcome to drop items in the receptacle any time during this period. As a reminder, all Community Service projects are optional. Students and families are not required to participate.

During the all-school mass on November 19th, all the food will be placed near the altar and blessed by Monsignor Deutsch The food will then be delivered to the pantry.

We appreciate your support of the Feeding Our Family project! The benevolence you exhibited during the Christmas Stocking project was truly inspiring and an amazing gift to your children. Thank you again for considering this worthwhile project that also helps so many!

In this season of Thanksgiving, we thank all of our families, volunteers and parishioners of Holy Cross for your tremendous efforts on behalf of Holy Cross Catholic School!

Wishing you a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

We give thee thanks, Almighty God, for all the benefits You have given us,

You who live and reign, forever and ever, Amen.
