Respect Life

Spiritual Adoption Program Begins March 20th, 2010

The Holy Cross Respect Life Group is beginning a nine-month crusade for life, called the Spiritual Adoption Program.

  • What is spiritual adoption? In the US alone, nearly 4,000 babies are lost to abortion every single day. This program is designed to "spiritually adopt" as many of these babies as possible. It is with great confidence that our “spiritually adopted” child will be spared abortion.

  • How does it work? Your time investment is minimal, but the rewards are eternal. You begin by picking up a pledge card and a prayer card from the Respect Life table. Complete the pledge card and return it to the Respect Life table between March 20th and March 28th. Starting on March 20, you will say a daily prayer for your baby and his/her parents.

  • Why start on March 20? Babies conceived on this date will be due around Christmas Day. We are joining the birth of our adopted babies with Jesus' birth.

What does Jesus say about this? "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least of mine, you did for Me." Matthew 25:40 We will have volunteers in the narthex the weekends of March 20th & 21st and March 27th & 28th, so please stop by for more info.

From someone who had an abortion…

"[The abortion] gave me grief and sorrow beyond expression. I was petrified to tell anyone. I have committed the most heinous of all crimes. Yet, the Lord forgave me, just as he forgave Paul. Yet I will always regret what I did and will probably always feel grief. But I pray that my experience can somehow prevent other women from making the same fatal mistake. I'm a nurse now, so I wear my uniform to all the pro-life things I do! It helps." Forgiveness and healing are available. Visit www.RachelsVineyard.org.

Rededication to the Cause of Life

"In this Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities: A Campaign in Support of Life we renew our call for individual Catholics and the many institutions and organizations of the Church to unite in an unprecedented effort to restore respect and legal protection for every human life - to be what the Holy Father asks us to be: a people of life and a people for life (The Gospel of Life, no. 78). It is our hope and expectation that in focusing on the need to respect and protect the lives of the innocent unborn and those who are disabled, ill, or dying, we will help to deepen respect for the life of every human being." - (US Bishops, 2001).

A Time to Heal *
for Post-Abortive Women

“A Time to Heal” is a 12-week Bible-studybased support group bringing the healing of Jesus to post-abortive women. Centered on Holy Scripture, “A Time to Heal” focuses on pivotal women of the Old Testament and Mary, the Mother of God. Participants will discover how some women in the Old Testament made bad choices yet eventually played an important role in carrying out God’s plan.

The program is offered through the Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Rockford. Anyone interested in participating should call 815-877-5433.

* This program is not a substitute for therapy or counseling.

Mercy Triumphs

The Church opposes abortion, but embraces with mercy those who have made this mistake. Let's all take encouragement from these words of Pope John Paul II: "I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To the same Father and to his mercy you can with sure hope entrust your child."
