Feast of Pentecost
May 11-18, 2008

PentecostActs 2:1-11 When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.”

From the CECC Communications Team

  • The Crusade: With close to 200 people in attendance, the 1st Annual Crusade Dinner Dance and Auction was truly a "knight" to remember. The event provided an evening of entertainment and fellowship from the presentation highlighting Holy Cross over the past 150 years to the silent and live auctions. Thanks to the generosity of young and old, parishioners and community members, and people of all income levels and faiths, the event raised over $24,600 for the new Catholic Education and Community Center.
  • Silent auction: If you picked up the "Kids Basket" (included children's over-thecounter medicines, a hairdryer, brush, shampoo, etc.) when leaving Eagle Brook, please contact Jill Perez at 630-399-9505.
  • Crosstown Music Fest: If you have experience as a professional event or promotions manager, please contact Kevin Duck at 630- 482-3252. Your expertise is needed in planning the Holy Cross 2009 Crosstown music festival.
  • Baseball Mania: $20 tickets will be on sale in the narthex through the end of May. Each ticket is good for 17 chances to win during 17 weeks of Major League baseball. All proceeds from the ticket sales go directly to the Holy Cross CECC.

Come See Prince Caspian with Holy Cross

Friday, May 16th - 5:00PM - Randall 15 Theaters, Batavia

According to the calendar the month of May is a month of spring, but for many students, May marks the beginning of summer. Since school breaks for summer vacation, and some finish school in May, then May must be the beginning of summer! Summer is a wonderful time to rest, relax, and maybe take a vacation.

Another wonderful opportunity summer gives is a chance to see some amazing cinematography. Unfortunately, movies have begun to have an increasingly alarming amount of inappropriate material. Parents must be more and more careful about what age their children must be before going to see a particular movie. One must worry about more than just language, violence, and human decency, there is further concern on the overall message of a movie; what does it say to its audience? Still, on a rare occasion, there is an opportunity to see a good family movie. Every once in a while, a movie is made that really delivers a good positive message that makes me excited to go to the movies again. This month we have an opportunity to see a good movie. On May 16th "Prince Caspian" will be released to theaters. "Prince Caspian" is the second movie to come out from C.S Lewis’ series "The Chronicles of Narnia." Though Lewis himself was not a Catholic, this seven-part series is a beautiful work of fiction with strong Christian morals present throughout the entire collection. "Prince Caspian" picks the story back up with the four children from the first tale, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." They return to Narnia to find the place very different from when they left. A new evil faces the folks of Narnia, and the good must work very hard to triumph over evil. I do not wish to give too much away, but it is a very exciting book. I can only imagine what it will look like on the big screen.

This sounds wonderful, but you may be wondering why I am taking the time to talk about this. Well, the simple fact is that this movie is so exciting that Holy Cross has reserved a limited number of tickets to see this film and we want to see you there. So on Friday, May 16th, at the Randall 15 Theaters, Holy Cross has reserved tickets to see "Prince Caspian" at 5:00PM for only $5 a ticket. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a good movie with the priests and people of Holy Cross. So if you would like to be a part of this event and see "Prince Caspian" with your fellow parishioners at a reduced rate then come join us. Since the number of tickets is limited, it would be wise to call the office (ask for Bernie) and reserve your tickets in advance, but you do not have to pay for them until you arrive at the theater Friday afternoon. If you do not call ahead, you can take your chances and just come to the theater on Friday the 16th, but I cannot promise tickets to those who wait until the last minute. I hope to see many of you there.

Peace to you,

Bernie (The Seminarian)
