I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.  For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.

But if I go, I will send him to you.  John 16:7

NEW DIRECTORY GREETERS NEEDED: We are creating a new parish pictorial directory with the photo sessions running Tues-Sat., June 5th through June 23rd.  See the parish website to sign your family up for photography.  Interested in a fun and easy volunteer job?  We need greeters to welcome our parishioners before their photo session.  Please call Nina Motyka at 630-879-0306 or Kathy Pollack at 630-406-1566 if you can help.  Thank you!

A SIMPLE LAUNDRY MINISTRY:  Are you able, like Saint Martha, to help care for our Lord's needs at home?  Could you do an extra load of laundry once every few months?  Our Altar Server cassocks require periodic cleaning.  This service is provided by a team of wonderful parishioners according to a flexible, comfortable schedule. The more the merrier!  Please contact the parish office staff if you would like to help beautify our liturgies in this way!

There will also be a change in the policy for working admissions and concessions at home volleyball and basketball games next year. We will no longer ask for volunteers via email or utilize the volunteer website to get games covered. Prior to the start of each month assignments will be made, and the work schedule will be emailed to all families and will also be posted on the school website and in the school lobby. No families will be assigned duties that will conflict with watching their son/daughters's games. If your family cannot work on your assigned date, it will be your responsibility to find a replacement to take your place, and you will be assigned an alternate date to work. If you are not willing to work at games next year, we will offer you the opportunity to opt-out of your responsibilites for a $200 fee which is payable at registration.

2011-2012 School Year

The Crusader philosophy of using athletics as an extension of our faith-based curriculum has provided our students with a foundation of sportsmanship, dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm.  As Holy Cross School starts our fourth year of athletics, we are very excited to build upon the successes of the past three years. We offer opportunities for 5th-8th grade students to participate in Girls Volleyball, Boys Football, Co-Ed Soccer, Boys and Girls Basketball, and Boys and Girls Track and Field. We are part of the Aurora Catholic League, and also compete against other area Catholic, private, and public schools.

I have been involved in weight training for 15 years and a runner for the past 14 years (I married a marathoner) having run the Chicago Marathon twice, now including my first Triathalon. I also coach my sons in baseball and football and enjoy helping my daughter with soccer and softball.

Seeing the kids have fun in whatever sport or activity they are going to participate in this year. I am also looking forward to working with all of the parents, volunteers, and staff.

A Holy Cross family with a newborn who lives west of the river is interested in carpooling for the rest of this school year.  They could drive your child(ren) to school in the morning and would appreciate transportation for their daughter home at 3PM dismissal.  Please e-mail us at hccs@holycross-batavia.org if you are interested.

A Holy Cross family is seeking a responsible teenager or young adult who would be interested in driving three children home from school at dismissal and supervising until their parent arrives home from work at 5PM.  Please e-mail us at hccs@holycross-batavia.org if you want more information.

Household Spotlight

Praying Together as a Household

The Church is a big family, so each of our families should be a "little church."  As such, our weekly preparation for Sunday, the Lord's Day, follows the same basic format as the Mass.  We speak to God; God speaks to us.  We give bread, wine and ourselves to God while God gives us His Son.

Monsignor Deutsch and Father Evans have recently created a Lord's Day prayer format for families, the domestic Church.  Please pick up a Prayer Card in the Narthex which your family can follow each week as you prepare for Sunday Mass.

"The path we have walked (in building and opening Holy Cross Catholic School)...has been in the footprints of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  He is the Supreme Architect whose plan we have followed.  All that we have tried to do has been for Him.  There is a joy in this new ministry for our parish and the exciting work we have been able to accomplish under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

On behalf of the administration, faculty, parents and students, I wish to express gratitude and praise to God for all the good work that He has begun and prayerful hope for all that we have yet to accomplish...From daily Mass, confessions, adoration, prayer, Cornerstoneclasses, sports, friendships, challenges and joyful expectation for all that is to come, Holy Cross School is a place of love diffusing far and wide the goodness of Christ.  Only in openness to the Holy Spirit can we continue to grow in body, mind and soul and give glory to Christ by becoming all that He calls us to be in His Holy Name.

Yours in Jesus through Mary,

Msgr Deutsch
