Family Fundraising Obligation
Each K-Eighth Grade family at Holy Cross is obligated to fund raise $300 during the school year. One of the objectives of the Home and School Association is to offer different opportunities for each family to reach this obligation. Three of our fundraisers have already begun: football mania, Christmas greens and new this year, cookie dough. You have probably seen these items sent home with your children in the recent weeks. One may ask why there are so many fundraising opportunities for you and your family? To answer simply – so you may meet your fundraising obligation in the program(s) that you would like. Don’t feel obligated to participate in every one of them, but choose the ones that are easiest for you.
A New Option
This year, there is a new option for those of you that don’t want to partake in fund raising at all. If a family would prefer to “buy” themselves out of their fundraising obligation, you may for $250. Why is a break given if a family writes a check to Holy Cross HSA? Simply, there is no expense that HSA has to offset. For example, if you buy a tub of cookie dough at $10 a little more than half of that will go to HSA (we have to pay the cookie dough man), however your family’s obligation will lessen by the full $10. Make sense? So if you would like to forgo fundraising and pay upfront, you obligation is only $250. There are a couple of catches with this option. We need to know by November 15, 2011 if this is the option for you and we need to receive payment by January 31, 2012. If you choose this option, you may still participate in any fundraiser but it will not count toward your obligation, which will be considered already met.
Where Does the Money Go?
All of the monies go back to the school. In recent years, HSA has purchased computers, picnic tables, projection screens, classroom instruction tables, and window treatments. Different curriculum programs were purchased for art, music and reading. HSA continues to support teachers, replenish classroom supplies, support clubs and social events, create yearbooks and directories, all helping to build a strong school and community. The fundraising helps to keep tuition down and offset fees and costs associated with running a school. This obligation is not transferable. Questions?
