What Are You Reading?
Mary Anderson:
Ugly as Sin, by Michael S. Rose
AnnMarie Creedon:
The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich
I love this book because of all the detail. It can be laborious to read at times, just for that reason, but it fleshes out the gospel and gives background information which really enhances my understanding of both the faith and the social norms of the time when Christ walked the earth. There have been so many "a-ha!" moments while reading this book where many things have come together for me and I have been enlightened on something that wasn't as clear before. I would also recommend The Doloros Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by the same saint.
Leslie Hammack:
Noise by Teresa Tomeo
Excellent review of the saturation of media and technology on our families, the damage it can cause and how to avoid its abuse.
A Picture Perfect Childhood by Cay Gibson
Using picture books to enhance your studies and your children's imaginations. Lots of book lists!
Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales
Building your spiritual life and a life of grace through your daily routine.
Dolores Holmen:
I can't recommend this book enough! Counsels of Perfection for Christian Mothers by Msgr. P. Lejeune. It is wonderful. I bought it used online, but inside there is a sticker saying you can order it from Angelus Press at 1-800-966-7337 or 1-816-753-3150.
I am also enjoying Jesus Our Eucharistic Love by Fr. Stefano M. Manelli.
Keep in mind to use your interlibrary loan service at your local library. I get many books this way. I can request them on my computer at home and then they call me when they come into the library.
Also, for Lent, or any time....ANYTHING by Archbishop Fulton Sheen. I have found several of his books on the shelf of the library.
Lisa Lau:
The Diary of St. Maria Faustina - for my spirit.
Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink - for my body. If you mindlessly eat 20% more than you think, you can mindless eat 20% less than you think. That's the theory. So far so good!
Also reading The Insulin Resistance Diet by Cheryle R. Hart and Mary Kay Grossman. My fasting blood sugar is too high so I'm "planning" to eat better and lower my sugar intake.
