A Chapter of T.O.R.C.H. (Traditions of Roman Catholic Homes)

CRECHE Clubs

There are several clubs coordinated and sponsored by CRECHE in which boys and girls can participate. These clubs are scheduled to meet on Club Fridays, which are the first Fridays of the month, at Holy Cross from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. If you are interested in starting a club, contact Leslie Hammack. The following clubs have been submitted and approved for meetings beginning Sept. 5th.

Lego Club

This club is for all ages, boys and girls, who enjoy building with Legos, K'Nex or Duplos.  Bring your own building materials and share your creativity!

Contact Michele Wood to sign up.

Little Learners

This a a first Friday offering for girls and boys from approximately age 3 to 6. Each month we will do crafts, read a story, do finger plays, have a snack and a physical activity centered around  a monthly theme.

At this point the monthly themes will be:

October: Johny Appleseed
November: Harvest time
December: Advent
January: Winter
February: Valentines
March: "In like a lion, out like a lamb"
April: Spring
May: Mom and Dad

These are subject to change to best meet the needs of the children involved.

The realities of homeschooling life with young children are understandable, but whenever possible, please let LeeAnn know the number and ages of the children that will be participating each month.  Feel free to come even if you do not give advance notice.   LeeAnn will always plan for a few additional children.

Please contact LeeAnn de Garcia if your child will be participating in this Friday club.

Little Flowers

Little Flowers Girls' Club® is a Catholic program for girls based on learning Catholic virtues through the lives of Catholic saints, Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Developed by a Catholic mom of nine, Rachel Watkins, and based on Fr. Lasance's Catholic Girls' Guide, the Club strives to bring the Catholic faith alive and inspire the girls to become authentic Catholic women.

Little Flowers is for girls aged 7-9. At each meeting, we will learn about a saint and a virtue, with a flower, Bible verse, and activity or craft that enforces what we've just learned.

Mothers are expected to participate with their daughters and take turns leading meetings. Accommodations can be made for moms whose children are in different Friday groups.

Book orders will be taken at the first meeting ($4.50/book plus divided shipping costs). There will be an additional cost (usually under $8) collected at the end of the year for the "Flower Store", where religious items (medals, booklets, statues, etc.) can be purchased with "Flower Dollars" the girls earn for independently completing activities, memorizing the Scripture verses, and helping their moms present the lessons.

Please contact Sylvia Keppel to sign up or work out accomodations if you have children in different Friday groups.

Little Flower Buds

Little Flower Buds is for girls aged 4-6. It follows the Little Flowers program, only at a simpler level where reading, writing, and crafts are geared down to accommodate a younger group.

At each meeting, we learn about a saint and a virtue, with a flower, Bible verse, and activity or craft that enforces what we've just learned. Mothers are expected to participate with their daughters and take turns leading meetings. Accommodations can be made for moms whose children are in different Friday groups.

Book orders will be taken at the first meeting ($4.50/book plus divided shipping costs).

Please contact Sylvia Keppel to sign up or work out accomodations if you have children in different Friday groups.

Little Women Hospitality

This program is for girls aged 10 & up.

From Ecce Homo Press:  "This program teaches the virtue of hospitality through classic literature, spiritual insights, the Catholic faith, and hands-on experience. The girls earn charms as they learn new skills. A great follow-up and supplement to Little Flowers Girls' Club!"

Little Women Hospitality will meet the third Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Lisa Lau is the coordinator for Little Women Hospitality. Contact Lisa Lau for more information and to sign up.

Please note, this club will NOT meet on club Fridays.

Students choose an area and topic of interest to work on. Topics are as varied as art, camping, woodworking, environment, chemistry, medicine, theater, horseback riding, music, sewing, cooking, fishing, architecture, and athletics. Show and Tell Science Club

The "Show and Tell Science Club" is an opportunity for like-minded, science-loving kids to get together, have fun, and share (i.e. "show and tell") SCIENCE they have learned, whether related to scientific theory, concepts, history, famous scientists, or just cool experiments. It is a chance for individuals to show off science skills and knowledge, as well as learn from each other. Each meeting will REQUIRE presentation-participation of EACH member.

The goals of the "Show and Tell Science Club" are:
- to encourage scientific thought
- to develop scientific awareness and appreciation
- to explore facets of science beyond the homeschool setting
- to strengthen presentation skills
- to promote leadership abilities.

This club is meant for 5th through 8th graders.
(Third and fourth graders are welcome, if you feel they can participate in presentations and stay focused.)
