“The Internet causes billions of images to appear on millions of computer monitors around the planet. From this galaxy of sight and sound will the face of Christ emerge and the voice of Christ be heard? For it is only when His face is seen and His voice heard that the world will know the glad tidings of our redemption. ...Therefore,... I dare to summon the whole Church bravely to cross this new threshold, to put out into the deep of the Net, so that now as in the past the great engagement of the Gospel and culture may show to the world ‘the glory of God on the face of Christ’.”
—Pope John Paul II

- Leslie Hammack just finished a two week trial of Computer Time, a software program that monitors your child's or even your time on the computer. You can set time limits (daily, weekly or monthly) for every person who uses the computer. He or she just logs in and out when they get on the computer and Computer Time does the monitoring . Users can check how much time they have remaining and when they get down to 15 minutes a voice tells them how much time they have remaining. It reminds them at 5 minute intervals until their time is up. You can also create tokens which grant extra time on the computer. For the Hammacks it has eliminated bickering about how long someone has been on and freed time from constant monitoring of clocks and timers. Check it out at www.softwaretime.com. If you like the program it's a one time fee of $30 for one computer or $40 for all computers in your home.

- Blick Art Materials proudly announces its on-line partnership with Art Academy Live, providing a revolutionary concept in art instruction.
With the click of a mouse, you can watch a demonstration on your computer screen and even interact with prominent art instructors via your keyboard without leaving the comfort of your studio or home.
Art Academy Live allows an artist to attend a virtual workshop, watching a computer screen as an instructor explains how he or she progresses through a painting. A second, even more exciting component is that you have the opportunity to interact with the instructor by typing in questions or comments on your keyboard.
Those questions, flashed onto the instructor's screen, may prompt the instructor to elaborate on a process. The interactive component is what makes Art Academy Live distinct. In place of a DVD, which a student would watch passively, the art student gets an opportunity to influence the instructor's demonstration, by offering questions, by asking for clarification, or by making other comments.
An artist can visit the site, see what classes are taking place either that day or in the next few days, and sign up for a class. Each live broadcast will last about an hour and a half. The artist also can browse through the archives of recorded versions of past classes and download them.
If an artist just wants to try out the on-line concept, 10- or 15-minute "snippets" are available for viewing. All of the above activities are available at reasonable fees. Once a snippet is downloaded, you can play and replay it until you master the lesson.
Give Art Academy Live a try! It's a great way to learn from outstanding teachers.
