Fr. Leo Patalinghug

Monday, March 22, 2010
7:00PM in the Church

He’s not your average priest, but more a force of nature on a mission!  Fr. Leo is an energetic and sincere guest with a flair for performing and engaging audiences. He is committed to helping families grow stronger.  Fr. Leo draws on his incredibly diverse background – he hold 3rd degree black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Arnis; he speaks a multitude of languages; is a singer-songwriter and an award-winning breakdancer!  A much sought-after national conference speaker, Fr. Leo uses his natural flair for performing to entertain audiences and reach them with common sense spiritual lessons for life.

Drawing from his passion for food and fellowship, Fr. Leo founded Grace Before Meals, a nation-wide movement that promotes the importance of family dinners by encouraging parents and children to prepare and enjoy meals together.  The value of these meals cannot be overstated. Respected researchers and periodicals have demonstrated the central role family meals have in reducing the risks facing teens like smoking, drinking and teen pregnancy.  Grace Before Meals builds upon this research and the personal experiences of Fr. Leo while he brings his unique perspective and insights to help families deal with the changes and challenges life constantly throws at us.

Fr. Leo is the author of the cookbook, “Grace Before Meals: Recipes for Family Life.” He is a faculty member at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, where he directs the Pastoral Field Education Programs for future priests.  Before becoming a priest, Fr. Leo studied law and journalism at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus.  Fr. Leo has been featured on Sirius Satellite Radio, ABC World News with Charles Gibson, Fox and Friends and recently appeared on the Food Network in a Throwdown with Bobby Flay, a competition in which he won with his amazing recipe for fajitas.

While Fr. Leo is a Catholic priest, his teachings to nondenominational, mixed or secular audiences are filled with universal themes of morals, respect, compassion and understanding, so that everyone can relate. For more information about this grassroots movement, visit:  www.gracebeforemeals.com
